Statistical evaluation of centerline concentration estimates by atmospheric dispersion models

چکیده

Abstract: Within the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) a Standard Practice (Z6849Z ) is being developed to provide an objective statistical procedure for comparing air quality simulation modeling results with tracer field data. The practice is limited to steady-state local-scale transport from isolated point sources in simple terrain. Evaluation data having similar external conditions are grouped together, and comparisons are made of the model’s ability to replicate without bias the average of the centerline maximum concentrations for each group. Centerline concentrations measured during three field studies are compared with estimates from three steady-state plume models (ISC, HPDM, and AERMOD). These results combined with those presented in Irwin and Rosu (1998) provide a complete examination of the draft ASTM Standard Practice under development. It is concluded that the evaluation methodology is capable of objectively discerning differences in skill between models in their ability to estimate the centerline maximum concentration.

Probabilistic Characterization of Atmospheric Transport and Diffusion

The observed scatter of observations about air quality model predictions stems from a combination of naturally occurring stochastic variations that are impossible for any model to simulate explicitly and variations arising from limitations in knowledge and from imperfect input data. In this paper, historical tracer experiments of atmospheric dispersion were analyzed to develop algorithms to cha...

Using CMAQ for Exposure Modeling and Characterizing the Subgrid Variability for Exposure Estimates

Atmospheric processes and the associated transport and dispersion of atmospheric pollutants are known to be highly variable in time and space. Current air-quality models that characterize atmospheric chemistry effects, for example, the Community Multiscale Air Quality model (CMAQ), provide volume-averaged concentration values for each grid cell in the modeling domain given the stated conditions...

Application of Astm D6589 to Evaluate Dispersion Model Performance to Simulate Average Centerline Concentration Values

INTRODUCTION Models of atmospheric processes simulate only certain spatial and temporal scales. The observations used to test the performance of these models are individual realizations (which can be envisioned as coming from ideal ensembles), and are affected by variations unaccounted for within the simulation model. Given this, it makes sense to ask the models to replicate variations having c...

Urban Hpac and a Simple Urban Dispersion Model Compared with the Joint Urban 2003 (ju2003) Field Data

The Hazard Prediction and Assessment Capability (HPAC) dispersion model is widely used by the U.S. Department of Defense and the results of previous evaluations have been presented at Harmonization conferences. The version of its diagnostic wind model that is applied to urban areas has been significantly updated to remove biases in wind speed estimates, requiring reevaluations with urban tracer...

Assessment of atmospheric dispersion from ANPP hypothetical accident based on Fukushima accident by HYSPLIT model

The atmospheric dispersion of Materials is one of the most important ways of spreading contamination of a NPP accident. In this study, the particle paths were calculated by HYSPLIT model (both pressure and AGL form of trajectory) horizontally and vertically at 0 and 1.5 meters above ground level during 15-day periods for 23& 24 November 2006 start times. Then, the releases values of Fukushima a...
